Feature Restricted Licensing vs Serial Number
Estimated Reading Time: 1 MinutesFeature restricted licensing and activation (IDS v15.1.0 and newer)
Licensing Changes in IDS v15.1.0 and Later
Beginning with Adobe InDesign Server (IDS) v15.1.0, Adobe no longer issues serial numbers for IDS installations. Instead, licensing is handled through Feature Restricted Licensing (FRL). With this model, licensed users download an installation package that already includes the embedded license.
Package Distribution
Datalogics is responsible for generating the required installation packages for both Windows (.zip) and macOS (.pkg) platforms.
Customers can download these packages directly from the Datalogics FTP servers.
Additional Information
To learn more about Feature Restricted Licensing and deployment options, refer to Adobe’s Feature Restricted Licensing - Online Deployment Guide
Important Note
An active Internet connection is required during installation and activation when using Feature Restricted Licensing. This connection is needed to validate the IDS product license.
Serial number distribution and activation (IDS v15.0.1 and older)
Licensing for Older Versions of Adobe InDesign Server (IDS)
For versions of IDS v15.0.1 and earlier, Datalogics provides licensed users with a 16-digit serial number to activate their software.
Downloading the Trial Version
To begin the installation process, users must download the trial (watermarked) version of InDesign Server from the Adobe InDesign Server Trial Downloads Program. After installation, the serial number provided by Datalogics can be used to activate the software.
Activation
Entering a valid serial number removes the watermark from the trial version of IDS.
Important Notes
- Serial numbers supplied by licensed resellers, including Datalogics, have been phased out by Adobe.
- Datalogics no longer issues serial numbers for new IDS license purchases.
- Serial numbers cannot be used to activate IDS v15.1.0 and newer.
- Serial number activation is supported only for IDS v15.0.1 and older.
