PDF2Office Components and Deployment
Estimated Reading Time: 2 MinutesThis article applies to the Windows version of Datalogics Adobe PDF Library (APDFL) 21. Feature availability, component filenames, file sizes, and deployment requirements may differ on other platforms or in other APDFL versions.
Description
PDF2Office converts PDF documents to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint formats. It makes PDF content available in formats commonly used for editing and business work.
Typical uses include preparing a PDF document for revision, bringing tabular information into a spreadsheet, or reusing presentation content. This capability supports workflows that need editable Office output from existing PDFs.
Samples
The installed sample is located at:
CPlusPlus\Sample_Source\DocumentConversion\ConvertToOffice\ConvertToOffice.cpp
It converts the supplied Word.pdf, Excel.pdf, and PowerPoint.pdf inputs to DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX using ConvertPDFToWord, ConvertPDFToExcel, and ConvertPDFToPowerPoint.

Files
Paths are relative to the SDK root. Sizes are uncompressed file lengths, rounded to two decimal places. Sizes and savings may vary by SDK build.
| File or directory | Size (MB) |
| CPlusPlus\Binaries\fpdfconversionsdk_c_win64.dll | 114.12 |
This DLL provides the PDF-to-Office conversion backend. No additional exclusive runtime dependency was identified for omission with this DLL.
Omitting the Feature When Unused
If PDF-to-Office conversion is unused, omit fpdfconversionsdk_c_win64.dll to save 114.12 MB.
The DLL can be omitted when no retained workflow converts PDF to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Tested PDF opening, text extraction, rendering, saving, reopening, and library shutdown succeeded without it, with matching results across the supplied document and transparency inputs.
Positive tests generated all three Office formats. Their ZIP packages contained the expected Office document parts and parseable XML. These checks establish successful generation, rather than visual fidelity for every input.
Application considerations
The conversion functions belong to the shared DLExtras interface. Its function table remains available when the Office conversion DLL is absent, so DLExtras availability is not a PDF2Office readiness test.
Calling a conversion function without the DLL raised APDFL error 0x300c0000: "Office conversion library not available." After the harness handled that error, core PDF processing continued successfully in the same process. A deployment without PDF2Office must avoid these conversion calls or handle unavailable-feature requests explicitly.
The backend may be loaded during APDFL initialization even when conversion is unused; a loaded-module listing alone does not establish that the DLL is required. Retain APDFL core dependencies and required font, CMap, Unicode, and color-profile resources. Validate the final product's retained workflows in an isolated deployment.
