Adobe eBook Platform Transition and Adobe ID Sign-In Changes -- ACS and RMSDK in 2026 and Beyond

Estimated Reading Time: 4 Minutes

What is Changing with ACS/RMSDK?: FAQ

In 2025, it was announced by Adobe that their eBook Products will be handed off to Harman Connected Services (now owned by Wipro) in the interest of furthering the development and support of the products. For the official Adobe article on this, you can visit this link: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/enterprise/kb/eol-faq-adobe-digital-editions.html

This article will also address a change that is coming for Adobe ID (Adobe IMS) users as a result of this transition -- please read carefully, as this change will not affect all end-users.

What is Happening to the Adobe eBook Products?

Under Wipro, the Adobe eBook products (to be rebranded) will continue to operate, and work is underway to update these applications as well.

Will there be any Service Interruptions?

Adobe and Wipro have both expressed that the transition is meant to be as seamless as possible, with minimal disruption to services and changes/service windows communicated ahead of time.

How does this Affect Datalogics?

As a user of ACS or RMSDK, your relationship with Datalogics will not change. The maintenance and development of the products is simply being moved from Adobe to Wipro.

Is ADE Going Away?

At this time, there is no planned EOL schedule for ADE, but a replacement is reportedly in the works from Wipro.

Will ACS or RMSDK Receive Updates?

We have been told that updates for both are on the way, though the initial updates will likely just be branding and endpoint changes for the initial Adobe to Wipro transition.

Sign-In Change for Adobe ID Users

In Wipro's words: if end users are "exclusively authenticating using a vendor ID to access their eBook content, this change does not impact them". Otherwise, please read on:

What is Changing?

There is an Adobe Sign-In cutover planned for the end of May 2026. After this date:

  • Adobe ID will no longer be supported for authentication
  • Users will be required to sign in using a ByteBooks ID.

What is ByteBooks?

ByteBooks is the upcoming Wipro replacement for ADE, but for the remainder of this article, it shall refer to the new authentication service for ADE, which is replacing Adobe ID.

The following link is to their transition page, where you can learn more about ByteBooks, the changes that will be occurring, and what's involved for the end user: https://dtsbytebooks.com/transition-help

What do booksellers need to do?

By the end of May 2026, booksellers will need to:

  • Communicate proactively with end users about the changes taking place
    • Notify all customers who are currently authenticating using Adobe ID about the upcoming sign‑in change.
    • Ensure this communication reaches end users.
  • For RMSDK users only: Handle this change in your RMSDK-based applications
    • As part of the sign-in change, applications will receive a new error code: E_ADEPT_RESET_PW_REQUIRED. This error indicates that the user must complete the ByteBooks sign-in flow before proceeding.
    • You must handle this error code within your RMSDK-based applications or integrated applications. The error message will read: Adobe ID sign-in is no longer supported for Adobe Digital Editions. Ebooks have been moved to new platform ByteBooks. To setup account visit https://helpx.adobe.com/enterprise/kb/eol-faq-adobe-digital-editions.html
  • Prepare your support teams on the changes. The ByteBooks transition link from earlier in this article will be very helpful.

What Do End Users Need to Do?

The easiest way for users to retain their existing eBooks licenses is to use the same email address in their ByteBooks ID as they currently use in their Adobe ID. If an address change is needed, the address attached to the Adobe account can be changed by the user, or ebooks-support@wipro.com can be contacted if the user has trouble with changing their Adobe-associated email address.

  • When prompted, end users will need to:
    • Create a new ByteBooks ID/complete the sign-in flow.
    • Sign in using a ByteBooks ID instead of Adobe ID.
    • Re-authorize Adobe Digital Editions when signing in again or when setting up a new device.
  • Please note:
    • Users' existing eBooks remain available under their ByteBooks ID as long as the same email address is used as in the Adobe ID.
    • The Adobe Digital Editions application itself is not changing at this time; this transition is authentication-only.

Support Material Available

At the previously provided transition link, the following materials are available to help booksellers and end users with the transition:

  • Wipro's words on the upcoming sign-in change and end user impact
  • Expected error scenarios (such as E_ADEPT_RESET_PW_REQUIRED)
  • Recommended handling and UX guidance for RMSDK-based applications

As always, you can contact acs_support@datalogics.com for any additional questions on the above.
