What languages are supported by the RMSDK rendering engine?

Answer:As of the 9.3.2 version, the supported languages are:

Arabic (right to left rendering is supported)

  • Chinese, simplified and traditional
  • Dutch
  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Hebrew (right to left rendering is supported)
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish
The RMSDK works fairly well with many languages beyond these officially supported ones, but it is not guaranteed. RMSDK should work well with any language that uses the Roman, Cyrillic, Greek or other simple script.  RMSDK 9.3.2 supports right-to-left rendering for Arabic and Hebrew.  RMSDK 9.3 breaks Thai texts only at spaces or on U+200B ZERO WIDTH SPACE (i.e. does not have dictionary-based line breaking), but we have seen at least one implementation of the RMSDK which has been enhanced to support Thai fonts. Of course, the fonts included or referenced with the application must support all the characters needed for any given language.

Also, RMSDK only supplies hyphenation dictionaries for English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish. Customers may add their own hyphenation dictionaries for other languages. Hyphenation dictionaries are in the same format as the ones used in OpenOffice. Customers need to be aware that many of the non-Adobe hyphenation dictionaries available might support only a subset of the required functionalities.
